✅ Highlights of the Edirne City Tour
During this guided tour, you will visit Edirne’s most famous landmarks:
Eski Camii (Old Mosque)
Built between 1402–1414, Eski Camii is known for its beautiful marble entrance and impressive Islamic calligraphy decorating the interior walls and pillars.
Üç Şerefeli Mosque
This mosque is famous for its unique minaret design. Its name comes from the three balconies on the southeast minaret, each accessed by separate stairways. The decorative tiles on each minaret are all different, making it one of the most important architectural achievements of the 15th century.
Selimiye Mosque (UNESCO Highlight)
Edirne’s masterpiece, Selimiye Mosque, was built for Sultan Selim II by the legendary Ottoman architect Mimar Sinan (1566–1574). It is considered Sinan’s greatest work, featuring a perfectly symmetrical design, four elegant minarets, and a magnificent central dome.
Semiz Ali Pasha Arasta
Another work by Mimar Sinan, completed in 1589, this long historic market street features shops on both sides. It’s a great place to buy unique local souvenirs, including Edirne’s famous fruit-shaped soaps.
Meriç Bridge (New Bridge)
Built between 1842–1847 at the junction of the Meriç and Arda rivers, this elegant bridge is one of the best photo spots in Edirne.
Kule Kapısı (Tower Gate)
Kule Kapısı is what remains of the tower that once protected the main gate of the citadel. It was rebuilt by Byzantine Emperor John Comnenus II (1118–1143) as part of the city’s defensive repairs.
Beyazıt Complex (Beyazıt Külliyesi)
One of the largest historical complexes in Edirne, featuring a mosque and a famous Ottoman hospital. The unique part of the complex is the octagonal domed mental health center (Timarhane) where patients were treated using music therapy.
